Curators: Florian Wüst and Stefanie Schulte Strathaus

Poised at the knife's edge of the cold war, the film & video artists of West Berlin were driven to extreme forms of expression by the extremity of their geography. West-Berlin was a fortress, the last fringe of the west protruding into the east, a haven for experimentation, social resistance and a radical underground. This rare triple-program of films is a unique time capsule from a time and place when artistic expression and anti-establishment resistance met in an electric fusion, with music from legendary Pere Ubu, Chrome, Ultravox, The Residents, Throbbing Gristle, and Wire. Curated by Florian Wüst and Stefanie Schulte Strathaus for Kino Arsenal (Berlin), the three programs will be shown in a one-time-only tour in Toronto, Montreal, and Ottawa this October.

Films and videos by: Brigitte Bühler, Dieter Hormel, Cynthia Beatt, Andrea Hillen, Rolf S. Wolkenstein, Jürgen Baldiga, Yana Yo, Lysanne Thibodeau, Ingrid Maye, Volker Rendschmidt, Christoph Doering, Klaus Beyer, Michael Brynntrup, Die Tödliche Doris, Christoph Dreher, Heiner Mühlenbrock
